Job Overview
We are pleased to present an exceptional opportunity to become a part of the Histopathology department at King's College Hospital. The successful candidate will engage with the Cellular Pathology team and explore interests in various specializations, including Gastrointestinal pathology, Uropathology, Gynaecological pathology, Breast pathology, Dermatology, and Cytopathology. The role demands active participation in enhancing the diagnostic capabilities and quality of the department, alongside a strong commitment to the mentorship and training of junior medical staff.
Key Responsibilities
This position is structured as a 10 PA replacement role. The proposed Job Plan is available for review. The responsibilities include 9 Programmed Activities dedicated to Direct Clinical Care, with the remaining time allocated for Supporting Professional and/or other Activities.
The post holder will collaborate with colleagues to provide and enhance histopathology services for patients. While this role is primarily based at one site, opportunities for cross-site collaboration may arise.
All staff members are expected to perform duties across various Trust sites as necessary. As a senior member of the Trust, you will work closely with clinical, medical, and managerial colleagues to deliver high-quality healthcare services. Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering exceptional clinical services
- Providing effective leadership to all staff within the specialty
- Promoting and advancing teaching and research in partnership with King's College London / KHP
- Adhering to the Trust's policies and operational procedures

Job Duties
- Collaborate with colleagues to deliver high-quality patient care, encompassing all treatment aspects and management responsibilities.
- Share responsibility for unit coverage on a rota basis, including managing colleagues' annual leave and short-term absences.
- Provide clinical supervision to junior medical practitioners in collaboration with other consultants.
- Engage in teaching, examination, and accreditation duties, contributing to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
- Manage outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as per service agreements.
- Participate in the Care Group's research initiatives in alignment with the Trust's R&D framework.
- Contribute to audit programs, including Morbidity and Mortality reviews and Clinical Governance activities.
- Actively participate in the development and monitoring of the Care Group's Business Plan.
- Provide professional leadership to all staff in the specialty, fostering ongoing professional education and training.
- Collaborate with clinical colleagues to maintain staff productivity and enhance job satisfaction.
- Undertake management duties as agreed with the Care Group/Departmental Manager/Clinical Director.
- Comply with all Trust infection prevention and control policies.
- Prepare for and execute protective interventions in accordance with evidence-based practices to ensure patient safety.
- Contribute to the Trust's commitment to providing Consultant-led 7-day services.
