About the Role

Janes is seeking a highly skilled Naval Weapons Subject Matter Expert to join our team. As a key member of our Weapons Team, you will conduct in-depth research and analysis of naval technologies in service and being developed to fight future wars.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct open-source research on naval weapons, including air-defence systems, torpedoes, mines, uncrewed surface attack vessels, and artillery.
  • Use expertise to support government, military, and defence industry customers around the world.
  • Deliver insight in various forms, including specifications databases, reference text, webinars, and bespoke reports.
  • Write news and long-form analytical pieces.
  • Build relationships with defence equipment manufacturers and system users, attend exhibitions, conferences, and events, representing Janes and gathering primary research.
  • Lead the development and implementation of improvements to our naval weapons and wider content sets.
Requirements
  • Educated to at least degree level in a relevant technical subject area.
  • Knowledge of naval weapons operation and design is essential, with hands-on experience an advantage.
  • Strong communication skills, fluent in written and spoken English, with a proven ability to produce technical writing.
  • Other language skills, particularly Chinese and Russian, are highly valued but not essential.
  • A good networker, able to build relationships with external subject matter experts.
  • Organisation and problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
