About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Advanced Dissector to join our team at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. As a key member of our histopathology department, you will play a crucial role in supporting the consultant team and contributing to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the effective and efficient running of the dissection area, ensuring that all activities are carried out in a timely and accurate manner.
- Participate in the surgical dissection of diagnostic B-E graded histopathology specimens, working closely with consultants and other team members to achieve high-quality results.
- Act as one of the designated persons responsible for coordinating activities for the dissection team, ensuring that all tasks are completed to a high standard and that the team is well-supported.
- Work with the Operations Manager and Technical Services Lead to develop, coordinate, and maintain the department's programme of continuous service review, ensuring that all quality systems are met and that the department is continually improving.
- Facilitate the induction, training, and competencies of staff within the dissection area, including Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Biomedical Scientists of all grades, Healthcare Associate Practitioners, MTOs, and ATOs.
- Participate in audits to monitor the effectiveness of dissection practices and facilitate the implementation of service improvement changes based on those findings.
Requirements
- Completed diploma of expert practice in histological dissection.
- State registration with the Health Care Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (FIBMS) by examination or hold an MSc in Biomedical Sciences or significant equivalent experience in a specialist discipline in Pathology.
- Supervisory skills course - Trust or equivalent.
Desirable
- Science-based learning.
- Recognised qualification in management/leadership.
