Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom Department for Energy Security & Net Zero Full time

Position Overview

Are you looking for a role where your contributions can significantly impact the future? The Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) is seeking a dedicated professional to join our team, where we are actively engaged in shaping policies that will influence the UK and beyond.

At DESNZ, our mission is to ensure the UK's energy supply is secure, reduce energy costs, and work towards halving inflation. We are committed to harnessing the potential of Net Zero to spearhead innovative green industries and promote enhanced energy efficiency throughout the nation. The work we do is not only timely but also crucial, and by becoming part of our team, you will play a vital role in driving this change.

Our environment is dynamic, engaging, and most importantly, impactful. We embody our DESNZ Values in all our endeavors; we are Bold, Collaborative, Inclusive, and Committed to Learning. Our department is dedicated to fostering a culture where every individual can flourish.

We provide an array of excellent benefits, including a top-tier pension plan, flexible working arrangements, and a commitment to your professional growth and development. We take pride in being a Disability Confident Leader employer, offering support to candidates requiring adjustments throughout the recruitment process.

Role Responsibilities

To achieve our net zero target by 2050, it is imperative to enhance access to information for homeowners regarding energy performance improvements and the decarbonization of existing properties in the UK. In your role within the Net Zero Buildings - Domestic Directorate, you will contribute significantly to the decarbonization of domestic properties, which currently account for a substantial portion of the UK's greenhouse gas emissions.

This position involves leading the Government's in-person advice demonstrator project, aimed at promoting the adoption of energy-efficient and low-carbon heating solutions in UK homes. You will oversee the Local Energy Advice Demonstrators team, ensuring effective performance management and quality assurance of data provided to the department.

Key Duties Include:

  • Managing and supporting one direct report within the Local Energy Advice Demonstrators Team.
  • Collaborating closely with delivery partners and stakeholders to meet departmental policy objectives while considering time, cost, and quality.
  • Chairing weekly governance meetings and ensuring all decisions are documented.
  • Overseeing governance processes and preparing quality assurance reports for the monthly Programme Board.
  • Developing and maintaining effective communication with project managers and stakeholders.
  • Identifying resources to ensure the successful delivery of the program.
  • Managing risks and issues, ensuring appropriate reporting and escalation.
  • Tracking and delivering benefits outlined in the business case.
  • Monitoring overall program progress through the governance framework.
  • Ensuring financial transactions between DESNZ and local authority hubs are accurately managed.
  • Tracking project delivery within budget and producing monthly reports on actuals versus forecasts.

Qualifications and Skills

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Experience in delivering consumer-facing services or policies, with a strong understanding of user journeys.
  • A proven track record in project delivery and management.
  • Strong financial acumen to support informed decision-making regarding departmental spending.
  • Operational management experience to effectively deliver project objectives.
  • Excellent networking and influencing skills to establish positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Additional Information

We value diversity and welcome applications from individuals who share our commitment to inclusion. We will provide full support to candidates with disabilities or long-term conditions who require adjustments during the recruitment process.

Join us in making a difference and contributing to a sustainable future.
