Position Overview

The successful candidate will participate in a 1 in 7 out-of-hours on-call rota at a busy District General Hospital. This role offers invaluable experience in managing facial trauma, oro-facial infections, jaw pathology, and oral soft tissue issues, alongside exposure to oral and facial neoplasia and dento-alveolar surgical procedures. The trainee will engage in various clinical settings, including outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, emergency departments, and operating theatres. The surgical team comprises experienced Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery Consultants.

Key Responsibilities

This Dental Core Training position in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery involves working under the guidance of departmental consultants. Daily interactions with a multidisciplinary team will occur across wards, emergency departments, operating theatres, and outpatient services.

This training role is designed to provide exposure to a comprehensive range of Oral & Maxillofacial surgical practices. Hospital consultation clinics will be available for both new and returning patients, supervised by qualified consultants. Additionally, trainees will gain experience in minor oral surgery, day surgery cases, and inpatient procedures.

Regular study sessions will be allocated for research, audit, and publication activities. Participation in relevant study days organized for local training programs is encouraged.

Attendance and presentations at specialized dental meetings are expected, and support for postgraduate examination preparation will be provided.

The position will undergo regular appraisal by a designated supervising consultant, alongside the maintenance of a portfolio documenting workplace assessments and activity logs.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • oBDS or equivalent dental qualification

Eligibility Criteria

  • Registration with the GDC is required by the time of commencement
  • Eligibility to work in the UK is essential
  • Completion of a UK Dental Core Training Year 1 program or equivalent is necessary
  • A minimum of 24 months whole-time equivalent postgraduate experience is required
  • For positions involving primary care, eligibility to join the relevant Dental Performers List is necessary
  • Evidence of ability to arrange transport to fulfill job requirements is required

  • Must be up to date and fit to practice safely
  • Satisfactory enhanced disclosure is mandatory
