As a vital member of our firmware engineering team, you will engage in the definition, architecture, design, development, documentation, and testing of FPGA firmware. This role is situated within the Communication Systems Business Unit, where you will contribute to various concurrent research, development, and production initiatives, ranging from significant investments to high-value projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough requirements analysis and derive firmware-level specifications from system-level requirements.
- Utilize best practices in FPGA firmware design under the guidance of the lead firmware engineer.
- Develop FPGA firmware modules, ensuring compliance with project requirements and adherence to the firmware group’s coding standards and security protocols.
- Create comprehensive firmware test specifications, including both module and full FPGA design tests.
- Ensure compatibility of test procedures with the project’s continuous integration systems.
- Participate in integration activities with software and hardware, enhancing your knowledge across these domains.
- Propose enhancements in tools, processes, and techniques to improve quality and innovation in firmware development.
- Contribute to project aspects to achieve an optimal balance between requirements, timelines, and costs.
- Engage in customer-facing meetings through document preparation and presentations.
- Estimate time and resources required for firmware tasks, ensuring adherence to budget and schedule.
- Review technical proposals and assist in providing accurate estimates for associated efforts, costs, and risks.
- Maintain information security as outlined in the Security manual to comply with regulations.
Role Requirements
- Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain SC and DV security clearances.
Qualifications and Skills
- Essential:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, or a science-related field, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in FPGA module design and implementation.
- Extensive knowledge of Xilinx, Lattice, Altera, or Microsemi FPGAs and their development toolchains.
- Experience in FPGA firmware testing and design for test methodologies.
- Ability to read and interpret hardware schematics effectively.
- Familiarity with version control, change control, and bug tracking systems.
- Desirable:
- Exposure to best practice firmware development processes and lifecycles.
- Experience with continuous integration and automated testing frameworks.
- Familiarity with coding standards applicable to defense, aerospace, or safety-critical systems.
- Experience with DOORS and Enterprise Architect tools.
