A remarkable position has opened for a Band 7 Advanced Specialist Speech & Language Therapist to collaborate with the pioneering interdisciplinary IDEAS Team (Interventions in Dementia: Education, Assessment and Support).

Qualifications Required:

  • A degree or equivalent in Speech & Language Therapy
  • Registration with the RCSLT and UK HCPC
  • Extensive clinical experience with adults facing communication and swallowing challenges

Experience: You should have a background in Mental Health within Health and Social Care Partnerships, including experience in care homes and providing support at home. Strong communication abilities and a flexible, creative approach to problem-solving are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialist mental health Speech and Language Therapy to designated facilities
  • Provide guidance and supervision to Speech & Language Therapists within the Mental Health Directorate

The IDEAS Team functions as a tertiary unit within the Community Mental Health Directorate, offering specialized advice, consultancy, and training to professionals who assist individuals with dementia experiencing stress and distress.

Team Collaboration: The successful candidate will work in a supportive environment alongside a Mental Health Nurse, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, and an Administrator, focusing on communication and swallowing assessments for individuals with dementia facing complex needs.

Training and Development: The role includes the development and delivery of training programs for staff on managing stress and distress in dementia.

Additional Requirements: The ability to travel independently across the region is crucial.
