Dreweatts 1759 is a prestigious auction house specializing in fine art, antiques, and collectibles. Our mission is to make the auction experience engaging and accessible for all, and our Interiors Department plays a vital role in this endeavor. We strive to provide a welcoming environment for both novice collectors and seasoned connoisseurs, ensuring that everyone has the chance to discover exquisite pieces that enhance their homes.

We are currently seeking a proactive and innovative Director of Interior Auctions to oversee and curate our monthly auctions in this department. This role is ideal for a candidate with extensive market knowledge and a strong grasp of auction dynamics, who is eager to take charge of a busy schedule of 10-12 auctions while focusing on broadening our audience reach. We are looking for someone who can think creatively and strategically about auction presentation to elevate the experience for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Auction Oversight: Generate auction estimates, compose catalogue descriptions, collaborate with colleagues to ensure description accuracy, conduct condition assessments, curate auction order, meet cataloguing and photography deadlines, coordinate with photographers for marketing visuals, and work alongside marketing teams to provide compelling copy and imagery. Ensure seamless operation throughout the auction process from pre-sale to post-sale.
  • Financial Management: Oversee budgets and strive to meet financial objectives.
  • Client Engagement: Deliver exceptional client service and maintain thorough reporting for vendors.
  • Team Leadership: Inspire and manage a small team of support staff, promoting a collaborative and inclusive workplace.
  • Strategic Development: Create and implement strategies to enhance auction accessibility for new collectors and strengthen the department's brand. Identify and pursue growth opportunities through consignments, partnerships, and relationships with buyers and vendors.
  • Client Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with existing clients while attracting new clientele through networking and marketing efforts. Ensure the client database is current and compliant with regulations.
  • Market Insight: Stay updated on market trends and developments to keep the department competitive.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to ensure a unified approach to business development and client service.

Qualifications:

● Degree in Art History, Fine Arts, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience.

● At least 3 years of experience in auction house administration and cataloguing.

● Familiarity with artworks, ceramics, furniture, and pictures at a low to mid-market level.

● Proven ability to present and market to new collectors and audiences.

● Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

● Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

● Willingness to work hands-on in a warehouse setting as well as in an office environment.
