Position Overview
We are pleased to announce an opportunity to become a vital member of the Histopathology department at King's College Hospital. The successful candidate will join the Cellular Pathology team and will have the chance to explore various areas of expertise, including Gastrointestinal pathology, Uropathology, Gynaecological pathology, Breast pathology, Dermatology, and Cytopathology. The role demands an active engagement in enhancing the diagnostic capabilities and quality standards of the department, alongside a strong commitment to mentoring and training junior staff members.
Key Responsibilities
This position is structured as a 10 PA replacement role. The anticipated Job Plan is available for review. The responsibilities include 9 Programmed Activities dedicated to Direct Clinical Care, with the remaining time allocated for Supporting Professional and/or other Activities.
The appointee will collaborate with colleagues to deliver and advance care and histopathology services for patients. This role requires active participation in the department's general workload while also allowing for the development of specialized interests. Although primarily based at one site, opportunities for cross-site collaboration may arise.
All staff members are expected to be flexible and work across various Trust locations as needed. As a senior member of the Trust, you will work closely with clinical, medical, and managerial colleagues to ensure the delivery of high-quality healthcare services. Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering exceptional clinical services
- Providing effective leadership to all team members in the specialty
- Promoting and advancing teaching and research in partnership with King's College London / KHP
- Adhering to the Trust's operational policies and procedures

Responsibilities Include:
- Collaborating with colleagues to ensure high-quality patient care, including treatment and management duties.
- Sharing responsibility for unit coverage on a rota basis, including covering for colleagues during absences.
- Providing clinical supervision to junior medical practitioners.
- Engaging in teaching, examination, and accreditation duties, contributing to CPD and clinical governance.
- Managing outpatient clinic commitments as agreed with the Care Group management team.
- Contributing to research initiatives in line with the Trust's R&D framework.
- Participating in audit programs and clinical governance activities.
- Assisting in the development and monitoring of the Care Group's Business Plan.
- Upholding infection prevention and control policies.
- Ensuring patient safety through evidence-based practices.
- Contributing to the provision of Consultant-led 7-day services as required.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Medical qualification eligible for registration.
- FRCPath or equivalent qualification, with full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- Extensive experience in histopathology, culminating in CCT or equivalent.
- Proven leadership capabilities within multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of medical audit principles and completion of audit projects.
- Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Desirable
- Higher degrees or diplomas (e.g., MD, PhD).
- Familiarity with current health service structures and initiatives.
- Management qualifications or courses.
- Relevant research experience and publications in histopathology.
