As a Lead Pharmacy Technician, you will play a crucial role in our operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare various sterile products, including Civas, TPN, Cytotoxics, and ATMPs.
- Assemble trays for production.
- Conduct quality checks on production trays.

Job Duties
You will join our team and receive training in all aspects of sterile preparation, with the opportunity to obtain an NVQ Level 2 in pharmaceutical manufacturing to support your future career in the NHS.
Individuals who have successfully completed this training have gained valuable experience and have advanced to become fully qualified pharmacy technicians or have transitioned into quality control roles. Our team offers a unique opportunity to gain insights into healthcare, sterile production, and quality management systems.
Your initial salary will be set at 75% of Band 3 as per the relevant guidelines during the first year while you complete the training program.
- Work within the sterile preparation area performing the following tasks:
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures as outlined in the Pharmacy Aseptic Procedure manual.
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices for all procedures within the sterile facility.
- Maintain cleanliness of the cabinets and work areas.
- Label and package sterile products appropriately.
- Order materials for the sterile unit and manage stock levels, ensuring accurate documentation and communication with senior staff regarding discrepancies.
- Sanitize items for assembly using approved techniques.
- Operate within positive and negative pressure isolators and laminar airflow cabinets to dispense, measure, and manipulate sterile doses using proper aseptic techniques.
- Deliver sterile preparations to various departments in accordance with pharmacy protocols.
- Assist in environmental monitoring and testing as required.
- Participate in audits within the sterile unit.
- Perform general housekeeping duties, including waste management in line with departmental policies.
- Follow ergonomic guidelines to minimize the risk of injury.
- Collaborate closely with other staff in the sterile suite to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Deliver pharmacy items to departments on scheduled rounds.
- Act as a mentor for NVQ Level 2 students within the sterile unit and assist with training as needed.
- Utilize appropriate IT systems as necessary.
- Maintain a working knowledge of other Pharmacy Assistant roles.
- Compile workload statistics and ensure they are reported to senior staff monthly.
- Uphold a safe working environment, adhering to safety policies and procedures.
- Engage in training and monitoring systems to ensure the delivery of a safe and effective service.
- Participate in the trust appraisal scheme.
- Promote a professional image of pharmacy within the trust by maintaining appropriate standards of dress and behavior.

Qualifications
Essential
- GCSE in English Language and Mathematics at Grade C or above.
- GCSE in Double Science or equivalent at Grade C or above.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Pharmacy services/pharmacy manufacturing or willingness to pursue this in a training capacity.
