About the Role

This role provides comprehensive support to the Health & Safety Business Partner in implementing and managing key safety initiatives within a dynamic airport environment. You will be instrumental in ensuring that managers and colleagues adhere to established safety protocols, fostering a culture of safety across all operations.

  • Provide expert guidance and support to managers and colleagues on the implementation of robust Safety Management Systems.
  • Ensure stakeholders understand and comply with MAG's stringent safety standards, encompassing safe working practices, secure environments, equipment regulations, and welfare arrangements.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of airport operations, including operational complexities, stakeholder relationships, safety cultures, and employee attitudes towards health and safety.
  • Proactively manage health and safety risks, contributing to the successful delivery and adoption of Manchester Airport's comprehensive safety management system.
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of Safety Improvement Plans (SIPs) to enhance overall safety performance.
  • Support the creation and dissemination of effective health and safety communications across various business areas, including annual safety campaigns and engaging events.
  • Provide expert advice during change management programs, guiding managers and supporting the seamless implementation of changes. Ensure all system actions are executed effectively following any implemented changes.
  • Continuously develop your health and safety expertise within this dynamic and evolving safety environment.

What Will Make You Successful?

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to provide guidance on low-risk incidents while escalating any potential risks or exposures to the Health & Safety Business Partners and/or Head of Health, Safety & Fire Safety. This role thrives on collaboration with H&S Business Partners and achieves success through influencing managers and colleagues, including trade union representatives at all organizational levels. The role also involves establishing best practices across the Group, supporting investigations into safety-related incidents and contractor safety incidents to identify root causes, and contributing to the production of high-quality reports with comprehensive conclusions and actionable recommendations. The role will lead and monitor the implementation of remedial actions to address identified issues.

About You

You will have achieved a minimum of a National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent). You'll bring a minimum of 5 years of relevant H&S experience, ideally gained as an advisor within a demanding, 24/7 operational environment. A strong understanding of the culture, challenges, and constraints within such environments is essential. You will have experience in providing compliance-related H&S expertise, advice, and assurance. A solid grasp of auditing techniques and practices is also crucial.

Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (at a relevant level) is highly desirable. Ideally, you'll also be working towards or hold a National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
