Position Overview

FreshDirect, a subsidiary of Sysco, is currently seeking aJunior Financial Accountant to become a vital part of the Central Finance team on a full-time, permanent basis.

This position reports directly to the Finance Manager and plays a crucial role in managing Fixed Assets, Assets Under Construction, Leasing, and Dilapidations accounting for FreshDirect. The individual will also oversee the monitoring of Intercompany recharges between FreshDirect and other Sysco GB operating entities, ensuring monthly reconciliations are completed accurately. The focus will be on executing and enhancing financial processes and reporting while providing valuable insights across the team.

With Sysco's ambitious 5-year growth strategy that includes significant transformation initiatives, this role is ideal for someone who enjoys collaborating with senior stakeholders and seeks to gain experience in a commercial finance environment.

This position offers a hybrid working arrangement, requiring in-office collaboration a few days each week, so proximity to the office is necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the Fixed Asset Register, including monthly updates, transfers, disposals, and recording monthly depreciation entries.
  • Conduct the quarterly Fixed Asset Verification process, collaborating with business stakeholders to confirm asset existence and assess their remaining Useful Economic Life.
  • Oversee Assets Under Construction, working with stakeholders to identify completion milestones for capital recognition.
  • Journal and reconcile monthly lease expenses as provided by the Group Finance team.
  • Calculate, journal, and reconcile dilapidation provisions for FreshDirect locations.
  • Monitor and reconcile monthly intercompany recharges with other Sysco GB operating companies.
  • Report into the Group Consolidation System (BPC).
  • Perform monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations using Cadency Trintech tools.
  • Support external and internal audits.
  • Assist with Annual Statutory Accounts and Corporation Tax processes.
  • Provide ad hoc project support in a transformational context.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will possess either AAT Level 4 qualification, be part-qualified (CIMA, ACCA, or ACA), or hold a Finance/Accounting degree or equivalent, with a desire to pursue further studies towards CIMA, ACCA, or ACA qualifications through our apprenticeship program.

We seek an individual with strong analytical capabilities, able to quickly comprehend and interpret complex data. Excellent communication skills are essential for effectively conveying financial matters to colleagues at all levels. Attention to detail is critical, along with the ability to resolve issues as they arise. Experience with fixed assets and month-end reconciliations is preferred. Flexibility to travel for in-office collaboration is essential.
