Job Summary:

As a Design Manager, you will work closely with the Project Manager and Quantity Surveyors to manage all drawing issues related to site(s) and ensure the flow and coordination of design information. You will be responsible for delivering accurate and coordinated design information from project inception to construction phases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand and be familiar with the form of contract being utilised and CField obligations under same
  • Review and agree design team scope of services in conjunction with QS
  • Review design for value engineering and buildability opportunities
  • Review and comment on all drawings issues and ensure they are coordinated to the highest level
  • Coordinate and work closely with the client, design team, and specialist sub-contractors and suppliers
  • Liaise with relevant Architects, Structural Engineers, Site Services Engineers, and QS practices to ensure consistency in work progress
  • Identify and propose timely solutions to drawing/production problems
  • Develop Design Programme and Information Release Schedule in collaboration with Design Team
  • Ensure all site staff have relevant information in a timely and professional manner
  • Prepare sketch details on site when required
  • Review sub-contract tender packages with Quantity Surveyor to avoid scope gaps
  • Deal with site queries from staff and sub-contractors
  • Coordinate subcontract design details
  • Support in the preparation of comprehensive snag lists for sub-contractor works
  • Assist in developing project programmes and progress reports
  • Attend and represent CField Construction in a professional manner at all relevant meetings
  • Facilitate the timely and professional flow of information between the design team and construction team
  • Support and assist in the communication flow between the client, design team, and sub-contractors
  • Attend internal management team meetings
  • Ensure all site personnel conduct their duties to the highest standard
  • Carry out objective assessments of staff performance and bring forward training proposals
  • Provide coaching to staff working with or reporting to the Design Manager
  • Ensure compliance and promote good work practices in relation to Health, Safety, and Welfare management systems
  • Contribute to internal management meetings relating to the design process and management systems
  • Manage change control log and change control process
  • Work closely with the technical team to identify and advise on lessons learnt

Key Requirements:

  • Degree/Diploma in relevant construction-related topics (Architecture/Civil Engineering/Structural Engineering/Services Engineering etc.)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role
  • Primary sectors: Residential Apartments, Student Accommodation, Hotel and Leisure, Offices, Refurbishment, Care Homes, and Housing
  • Project values: £5 to £90 million Design and Build
