About Southwell Racecourse
Located in the charming town of Southwell, our racecourse is one of the six all-weather tracks in the UK, known for its unique character and vibrant atmosphere. With a transition to a Tapeta surface in 2021, we host a variety of racing events throughout the year, making us one of the busiest racecourses in the country.
In addition to horse racing, Southwell Racecourse is home to a distinguished golf club featuring two contrasting nine-hole courses, including the signature 7th hole with its island green.
Role Responsibilities
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring a high-quality racing surface year-round. Responsibilities include:
- Executing a comprehensive maintenance program for the racing course under the guidance of the Clerk of the Course, which involves outdoor work in various weather conditions and can be physically demanding.
- Preparing the course for racing, including the setup and restoration of the surface before, during, and after events, utilizing tractors, machinery, and all-weather maintenance equipment as necessary.
- Utilizing a range of gardening and agricultural tools, machinery, vehicles, and chemicals while adhering to safety regulations and company policies.
Candidate Profile
The ideal Grounds Person will possess:
- A commitment to maintaining the highest standards of presentation for outdoor areas.
- Experience in grounds maintenance and an understanding of the operational aspects of events.
- A willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by the nature of the role.
