Physical Design Researcher

Imec is seeking a highly skilled Physical Design Researcher to join our team in Leuven, Belgium or Cambridge, UK. As a key member of our research team, you will work on the cutting edge of advanced CMOS technologies, evaluating and benchmarking their performance, and optimizing design and block level aspects to fully utilize future technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate the impact of various technology options on power, performance, and area of different SoCs through physical design experiments.
  • Analyze the impact of technology options on circuit-level aspects of designs, including critical paths, clock trees, and power grids.
  • Contribute to the development of automated flows for physical design experiments and work with EDA partners to enable novel power grid solutions and 3D stacked designs.
  • Interact with universities to develop new micro-architecture concepts that leverage novel technology capabilities.
  • Generate or configure relevant aspects of the PDK as part of the job.
Requirements:
  • PhD in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, or a master's degree with at least 3 years of relevant industrial experience in physical design.
  • Solid understanding of key building blocks of digital design and SoC architecture.
  • Detail-oriented with strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Capable coder with experience in synthesis and physical design tool flows (Cadence Genus/Innovus, or Synopsys Fusion/DC/ICC).
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills.
