Your Role

As a pivotal member of our ecology division, you will oversee and execute high-caliber assessments and deliverables for diverse clients across various projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing projects from inception to completion, offering ecological and biodiversity guidance to clients, stakeholders, and project teams;
  • Planning, directing, and performing ecological surveys;
  • Conducting environmental impact assessments, biodiversity net gain evaluations, and drafting a variety of ecological reports and strategies;
  • Designing and implementing effective mitigation strategies to enhance biodiversity and safeguard ecological features;
  • Mentoring junior staff, imparting your expertise to foster their professional growth;
  • Establishing and nurturing robust relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.

Candidate Profile

  • A degree or higher qualification in Ecology or a related discipline;
  • A minimum of 4-5 years of experience in ecological consultancy, demonstrating project management capabilities for medium to large-scale and complex sites;
  • Proficient in advising clients on Biodiversity Net Gain, with a solid understanding of the DEFRA Statutory Biodiversity Metric and the preparation of relevant reports and plans;
  • Extensive experience in producing complex reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA), and Species and Habitat Management Plans;
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholders;
  • Advanced knowledge of ecology and wildlife protection within the UK legislative and planning framework;
  • Possession of specific ecological specializations or protected species licenses is advantageous, though comprehensive skills and knowledge are equally valuable;
  • Competency in Microsoft Office and preferably some familiarity with GIS software;
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in a relevant professional organization (e.g., Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM));
  • A valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
