London, Greater London, United Kingdom University College London Hospitals Full time

Job Overview

This position presents a remarkable opportunity to become part of the pre-treatment team within the radiotherapy and proton beam therapy services at University College London Hospitals. The role emphasizes the promotion of technical advancements while ensuring the utmost standard of care for patients diagnosed with cancer.

The radiotherapy department is dedicated to treating a diverse array of cancers, including prevalent types as well as specialized treatments such as pediatric care, brachytherapy, isotope therapy, total body irradiation, and limb sarcoma radiotherapy.

The pre-treatment suite is equipped with a specialized CT, a dedicated Mould room, and has access to MRI and PETCT technologies. Radiographers in this setting provide advanced practices for palliative virtual simulation and breast localization.

University College London Hospitals has been recognized as one of the two national centers for Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) in the UK.

The PBT department concentrates on treating CNS tumors, head and neck cancers, and spinal/pelvic sarcomas, with pediatric and young adult patients comprising approximately one-third of the patient population. The PBT pre-treatment suite features dedicated CT and MRI scanning capabilities.

Main Responsibilities

We are seeking a proactive, enthusiastic, and skilled individual to fulfill this role. The successful candidate will advocate for best practices and streamline the patient care pathway. Responsibilities include executing all practical aspects related to preparing radiotherapy delivery to a high standard within a culture that prioritizes patient safety and satisfaction. Opportunities to enhance knowledge of the pre-treatment processes for both photon and proton planning will be available, alongside the development of skills such as administering intravenous injections, MRI scanning, and advanced practices in radiographer-led services like breast simulation. The postholder will:

• Strategically plan radiotherapy procedures for a wide range of benign and malignant conditions with a high degree of precision. Utilize individual judgment daily to ensure consistent and accurate treatment.

• Take responsibility for acquiring high-quality planning images while minimizing patient exposure by justifying each imaging procedure. Regularly apply skills and experience to assess and manipulate images, necessitating knowledge and ability to interpret various imaging modalities. This includes making informed decisions regarding patient treatment and implementing necessary adjustments.

• Maintain accountability for professional actions.

• Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care before, during, and after radiotherapy treatment.
