The People DDaT team is dedicated to enhancing the Human Resources (HR) function by:

Product Management roles are essential for achieving the above objectives, with a strong emphasis on ensuring that products cater to user needs, can be developed iteratively, and are continuously improved to provide measurable benefits to the broader organization.

The Senior Product Manager operates within a compact enabling DDaT team at the core of the People function, collaborating with other product management professionals, Enterprise and Technical Architects, as well as Service Design and User Experience leaders, who engage, influence, and assure the quality of People products across Civilian, Military, and Veterans Personnel services.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Product Manager will be accountable for:

  • Establishing product strategy and leadership across a variety of People products and services.
  • Collaborating with a diverse array of stakeholders from various Defence teams, including civilian, armed forces, and veteran communities, to consolidate the demand for People products and services.
  • Providing product expertise, guidance, and support for the effective use and development of relevant products within the People function.
  • Promoting enhanced digital workflows in accordance with Government Service Standards.
  • Ensuring that product development and enhancements align with user needs and the strategic objectives of the People function, which includes:
    • Confirming that delivery priorities reflect user requirements.
    • Utilizing user insights and experience data to inform prioritization decisions.
    • Implementing enhancements to products that improve usability and accessibility.
    • Setting standards and ensuring compliance of People products and services.

Person Specification

Main Duties

As a Senior Product Manager, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Building strong, enduring, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and delivery partners to ensure that the development of People products and services aligns with user needs and strategic objectives.
  • Facilitating the coherence of demand and prioritization of People products and services on behalf of broader People function stakeholders.
  • Identifying and managing inter-product and service dependencies, providing support to mitigate risks and resolve challenges.
  • Assessing opportunities for digital and technology products to meet the needs of the People function.
  • Offering product expertise to ensure alignment with standards and support necessary assurance activities.
  • Gathering user insights and performance data to optimize and continuously enhance People service delivery.
  • Advocating for digital service delivery by identifying opportunities to integrate agile methodologies and user-centered design that comply with Government Service Standards.
  • Promoting the adoption of Product Management practices across Defence by engaging with the wider product community both within Defence and across government, sharing best practices, and collaborating with others.
