About the Role

We are seeking a talented Junior Backend Engineer to join our team at Verisk Maplecroft. As a key member of our Technology Team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality software solutions and contributing to the development of our client-facing web application (GRiD).

You will work closely with our experienced developers and be empowered to contribute technical and user-focused improvements to our products and solutions. Your primary focus will be on developing and maintaining our web application, ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality, performance, and security.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in requirements gathering, refinement, and delivery of user-focused improvements
  • Collaborate effectively with team members on technical projects
  • Develop high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested code that meets user requirements
  • Work collaboratively with other Developers, Project Owners, UX, designers, and QA engineers to deliver high-quality solutions
Qualifications
  • A proven track record of developing in Python
  • Awareness of Django and the Django Rest Framework
  • Familiarity with building web applications, common design patterns, and underlying architectures
  • Familiarity with Agile software development practices
  • Some knowledge in REST APIs, both in authoring and consuming
  • Good level of experience in SQL and database interaction
  • Knowledge and awareness of how to apply Web Security best practices
  • Good understanding of git and working collaboratively on team-level code base
  • An understanding of frontend web technologies and how web browsers behave and perform
Desirable Skills
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies and platforms such as AWS
  • Experience using docker or other container orchestration technologies
  • Experience of the Linux command line and basic Linux server administration skills
