Job Description

Job Title: Director of Public Affairs and Policy

Company: Betting and Gaming Council

Location: Primarily based in our Westminster offices with some working from home.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: Up to £85,000 + bonus and benefits

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Public Affairs and Policy to lead our public affairs work with and for members, engaging with Ministers, MPs, Peers, civil servants, the regulator, other industry trade associations and third parties in the formation of public policy.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Public Policy Leadership: Work with the Chief Strategy Officer to ensure the effective planning and implementation of BGC's public policy work to ensure the effective delivery of the strategic objectives;

  2. External Relations: Establish, develop and maintain appropriate working relationships with members, the Gambling Commission, DCMS, Treasury, Health, No10, Parliament, the third sector, and other external stakeholders as necessary;

  3. Internal Relations: Work closely with, and be accountable to, the Chief Strategy Officer for the success of BGC's public affairs work, such that BGC achieves its strategic plan.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding and experience in the development and execution of public policy with key relationships inside government.

  • Experience of independently creating and delivering on a public affairs strategy.

  • Experience of leading a team and working with stakeholders to work collegiately.

  • Strong influencing, negotiation, and networking skills, with ability to operate in a dynamic and evolving environment.

  • Strong communications skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to translate complex policy matters into simple messages.

  • Adaptable to changing priorities and able to hit the ground running when dealing with complex issues.

  • Self-motivated, well-organised, pragmatic and able to perform tasks independently.

  • Continuous drive and energy to get things done.
