About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Education Mental Health Practitioner to join our New Forest Mental Health Support Team. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering schools' overarching approach to providing mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people.

Main Responsibilities
  • Work with colleagues to provide better access to specialist mental health services and support referrals where required.
  • Support colleagues in education to identify and manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing.
  • Deliver low-intensity CBT-based interventions and collaborative working with young people and families.
  • Experience of working with children and young people with mental health challenges and good knowledge and understanding of mental health issues in children and young people.

Person Specification
  • Qualification from CYP Low Intensity Training Course (CWP or EMHP Post Graduate Certificate or Level 3 undergraduate course) supplemented by demonstrable experience working as a CWP with a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience.
  • Training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or within a psychological therapy.
  • Psychology or other health-related undergraduate degree.
  • Low Intensity Supervisor training qualification, or willingness to attend this during the first year in post.
Additional Criteria
  • Ability to evaluate and put in place the effect of training.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of interpersonal skills over the telephone.
  • Ability to engage children and young people in an effective therapeutic alliance.
  • An ability to make effective use of clinical supervision.
