Power Electronics Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Power Electronics Engineer to join our Systems Engineering group. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing low voltage and medium voltage power electronics systems for Drive System projects. This is a technical role that requires strong knowledge of power electronics converter design and electrical machines control methods.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop power electronics converters to meet specific application requirements.
- Undertake all aspects of power electronics circuits design, including snubber design, gating electronics design, and thermal design.
- Develop power electronic systems analytical and modelling tools for systems with a large degree of MW range power electronic converter systems.
- Verify and validate low voltage and medium voltage power electronic systems.
- Apply engineering standards and develop design practices.
- Ensure power electronic system designs comply with relevant health and safety, international standards, and class society rules.
- Support attainment of on-time delivery, cost, and quality targets on projects.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, and sub-contractors.
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in power electronics or a related field.
- Knowledge of power electronics converter design and electrical machines control methods.
- Good semiconductor device domain knowledge and their associated gating electronics and snubber circuits design and thermal design.
- Skilled user of power electronics design tools such as Mathcad, MATLAB, Simulink, and PLECS.
- Ability to travel within the UK and overseas for short-term working.
- Able to achieve UK security clearance.
- Knowledge of power electronic converter control systems design and analysis.
- Ability to multi-task on a variety of projects and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Able to make prompt, clear decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, including listening, consulting others, and communicating proactively.
- Knowledge of drive control systems.
- Strong report writing skills, including writing clearly and succinctly to meet the needs and understanding of the intended audience.
- Strong personal organisational skills, including managing time effectively, monitoring performance against deadlines and milestones, and working productively in a pressurised environment.
- Upholds ethics and values, demonstrates integrity.
- Learns from successes and failures, seeking team and/or customer feedback.
- Willing to work extended hours at critical times.
- Full UK driving licence is desirable but not essential.
- Focuses on customer needs and satisfaction, consistently achieves project goals.
- Able to establish good relationships with customers and colleagues, able to build effective networks inside and outside of the organisation.
- Adapts interpersonal style to suit different people and/or situations.
- SAP and Teamcenter (PLM) experience is desirable but not essential.
