About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Social Worker to join our Fostering Team at Powys County Council. As a Supervising Social Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting our foster carers and their families to achieve the best outcomes for the children in their care.

About You:

  • You will have post-qualifying experience in a fostering-related social work role or a post-qualifying experience in other childcare settings such as a looked-after children's team.
  • You will have a knowledge and understanding of the needs and experiences of children who are unable to live with their parents, as well as skills and knowledge in complex family dynamics and support.
  • You will be able to support our foster carers and their families to achieve the best outcomes for the children in their care.
  • You will have up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Social Services and Well-being Act and Fostering Regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will supervise foster carers, ensuring they are well-supported with appropriate advice and guidance to enable them to continue to provide a safe, healthy, nurturing, and learning environment for children/young people who they are looking after.
  • You will be part of our recruitment process, undertaking occasional initial home visits to potential foster carers.
  • You will have opportunities to participate in foster carer training, such as Skills to Foster Pre-approval training.
  • You will occasionally undertake fostering assessments and Friends and Family Assessments to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people are achieved via the completion of high-quality assessments.
  • You will support the recruitment officers by occasionally taking part in actively recruiting foster carers.
