Principal Social Worker

The Care and Support teams at Powys County Council work with children, young people, and their families when it has been identified they are in need of additional support and services. This may involve children in need of care and support or protection plans, private Law proceedings, families in the Public Law Outline (PLO) process, and initiating Care proceedings. The team is well-established and supportive, with a strong focus on professional development and career progression.
About You:
We are looking for a motivated and determined individual who is skilled and confident in communication, with the ability to sustain engagement with families in fluctuating circumstances, including where there is hostility and risk. You will possess a wide range of knowledge and skills to identify risks to children and help manage those risks, ensuring proportionate and timely intervention is provided, and help to build family relationships and identify individual support networks. You will be competent in maintaining up to date records and report writing.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry a small caseload, assessing and managing risk in more complex cases, and supporting others to develop risk management skills. Carry out agreed tasks to assist the Team Manager, such as Supervision and oversight of Assessments and care plans. Take the lead in professional development and reflective practice sessions within the team, covering areas of interest and need. Show a commitment to providing a high standard of social work practice by meeting our statutory duties and following policy and procedure.
