Position Overview

As a Consultant Psychiatrist within our Bank Services, you will hold medical accountability for all inpatients and serve as the Responsible Clinician for detained individuals. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and engage in weekly meetings to make critical decisions regarding patient care and treatment. Your role will also involve mentoring and supervising the Speciality Doctor, ensuring that all responsibilities are fulfilled by qualified personnel.

Key Responsibilities

You will play a vital role in supporting the service's expansion by managing a caseload of day care patients and outpatients. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing an initial care plan with the team upon patient admission and completing necessary documentation.
  • Conducting patient admissions, including mental state and physical examinations.
  • Collaborating with team members to create individualized treatment formulations for each patient.
  • Establishing initial observation levels and care plans prior to the first multidisciplinary team meeting.
  • Performing medical examinations in accordance with the unit's physical assessment protocols.
  • Assessing, treating, and monitoring psychiatric aspects of eating disorders, including associated psychopathologies and co-morbid conditions.
  • Taking primary responsibility for the physical health of patients, coordinating investigations, and making referrals as necessary.
  • Evaluating and adjusting individual treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective patient care.
  • Reviewing care plans with the team and agreeing on outcomes during meetings.
  • Prescribing and monitoring medications in alignment with relevant guidelines.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications:

  • Specialist registration with the General Medical Council and a valid license to practice.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent qualification.

Essential Experience:

  • Approved Clinician status or a willingness to obtain this designation.
  • Registration for Continuing Professional Development with the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacology related to eating disorders and their management.
  • High self-awareness and the ability to reflect on emotional responses to patients.
  • Willingness to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in treating eating disorders as a higher trainee or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with various psychotherapeutic approaches used in treating eating disorders.
  • Experience managing refeeding in severely underweight patients.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Training in one or more psychotherapeutic modalities applicable to eating disorders.
  • Relevant publications in the field.
  • Experience in research and/or teaching.
