Position: Senior Grid Connection Specialist – Solar PV

In the realm of renewable energy, the ability to connect to the grid is paramount. This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Grid Connection Specialist to work with a reputable developer focused on Solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects.

Employment Type: Permanent Contract

The Senior Grid Connection Specialist will oversee all phases of assigned projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budget constraints.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the oversight of electrical and civil connection designs, ensuring all necessary permits are secured for construction.
  • Preparing applications and submissions for the approval process with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs).
  • Reviewing planning documents and Independent Connection Provider (ICP) designs to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Assessing project design and contractual documentation to guarantee timely and budget-compliant delivery.
  • Drafting ICP tender documents and assisting in negotiation processes.
  • Coordinating with DNOs and ICPs to secure the most cost-effective connection solutions.
  • Preparing submissions for power system studies related to our solar and battery projects.
  • Providing on-site supervision during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Evaluating grid power studies for various solar and battery initiatives.
  • Identifying potential issues and proactively implementing measures to mitigate project risks.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to pinpoint potential problems and take proactive steps to prevent delays. On-site presence will be required to address project-specific operational challenges.

Accountabilities
  • Contributes to the strategic direction of the Business Stream.
  • Ensures compliance with current legislation and relevant utility policies, procedures, specifications, and codes of practice.
  • Maintains fit-for-purpose design processes and procedures to support business objectives.
  • Secures necessary approvals and planning consents as required.
  • Provides analytical support and advice to resolve issues and enhance operational performance.
  • Offers functional leadership within a defined service area.
  • Develops and nurtures professional networks to contribute to best practices and effective solutions.
  • Formulates training and development plans for their function.
Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold a degree in electrical engineering (MSc / MEng / BSc / BEng or equivalent) and possess:

  • Project management experience (3+ years) within the ICP and/or DNO/IDNO sectors.
  • Expertise in solar PV and BESS technologies.
  • A solid understanding of commercial aspects related to the industry.
