Electrical Design Engineer - Job Overview:

Melbreck Technical Recruitment is working with a leading designer and manufacturer of special purpose machinery to hire an Electrical Design Engineer to join their technical team.

This is an office-based role that requires a hands-on Electrical Design Engineer to work closely with the Mechanical Design, Project, and Software teams to provide control panel layouts, schematic drawings with component and cable specification, and support to the installation teams and clients.

Electrical Design Engineer - Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design and develop electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams using Eplan Pro Panel.
  2. Specify and source components, consumables, and other hardware in conjunction with the purchasing and software departments to meet project requirements and cost targets.
  3. Collaborate with the Software department to select PLC/HMI systems.
  4. Support the Spares/Service department with sourcing parts for customers and technical queries.
  5. Work with customer-provided specifications (URS) when required.
  6. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards, such as BS7671, IEC 60204, ISO 13849, UL508A, NFPA79, AS3000, etc.
  7. Implement and maintain product safety and compliance to relevant codes and standards.
  8. Provide technical advice on matters arising from sales enquiries.
  9. Offer technical support and guidance on product quality, test, inspection, and application, including reviewing and providing relevant documentation.
  10. Conduct technical design calculations and provide reports as required.
  11. Collaborate with the Mechanical Design department to package the control system within the machine envelope.
  12. Research and specify obsolete component replacements for existing machines in the field.
  13. Specify correct parameters for components as needed.
  14. Work with low-voltage single and three-phase AC systems, ranging from 110V to 600V.
  15. Work with extra-low-voltage DC systems, typically 24V.
Electrical Design Engineer - Requirements:
  1. Proven experience in electrical wiring and mechanical experience would be beneficial.
  2. Previous experience with electrical CAD software, specifically E-plan Pro Panel.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  4. Qualifications to HNC/HND standard or above in an electrical engineering-related subject.
  5. Able to manage a dynamic workload and have a flexible approach to the role while maintaining excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  6. Experience in reading and interpreting technical drawings and data in written/numerical form on electrical systems.
  7. Ability to work effectively as an individual and within a team.
  8. Proactive in seeking opportunities for improvement and delivering solutions to diverse tasks and projects within demanding time, target cost, and quality requirements.
Electrical Design Engineer - Benefits:
  1. Standard working hours: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm.
  2. Pension scheme.
  3. 22 days Annual Leave, plus 8 days bank holidays.
  4. Holiday allowance increases with time served.
