Position Overview

Achieving for Children is a Community Interest Company that embodies a public sector ethos while embracing innovative practices to deliver exceptional services. As a not-for-profit social enterprise owned by three local authorities, we combine the benefits of a social enterprise with the advantages of local government employment.

Role: Social Worker - Looked After Children Team

Compensation: £3000 annual market supplement available

We are seeking dedicated social workers who are passionate about ensuring positive outcomes for children under our care. Your creativity and skills in engaging with children of various ages will be invaluable in making a meaningful impact in their lives.

Social workers within the Permanency service will engage in significant direct work, such as life story work, which can create lasting changes in the lives of children. We are looking for enthusiastic and committed professionals who possess the drive to make a positive difference in children's lives and can inspire the networks surrounding our young people to achieve high standards of care and support.

AfC promotes a hybrid working model, with the main office located in Kingston, where you will provide support to children and young people aged 0 to 18.

Key Responsibilities

As a Social Worker, you will act as a corporate parent and lead professional for our children. It is essential to understand and advocate for the views and wishes of our children and young people, ensuring they are supported to reach their full potential.

Your role will involve collaboration with other professionals to guarantee that children and young people receive the necessary care, education, health services, and additional support to meet their needs effectively.

You will support children living with relatives, friends of foster families, prospective adopters, or those in children's homes and semi-independent units. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting regular statutory visits
  • Completing and updating assessments
  • Developing Care Plans
  • Collaborating within a professional network to address the needs of children and young people

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A degree-level education with the relevant social work qualification
  • A solid understanding of statutory legislation, including the Children Act
  • Skills in planning and assessing the needs of children and young people
  • Experience in managing an allocated caseload
  • A commitment to Achieving for Children's vision and values, supporting children and young people to lead safe, happy, healthy, and successful lives

Benefits

We are dedicated to fostering a supportive environment where you will have access to a wide range of resources, competitive salary, and benefits that facilitate hybrid working. At AfC, you will enjoy:

  • 29 days of annual leave, increasing to 33 days after 2 years and 35 days after 4 years, plus an additional day off in your birthday month
  • Tailored induction sessions starting on your first day
  • Access to Local Government salary and pension schemes
  • Flexible working options to maintain a healthy work-life balance
  • A comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme
  • Various staff benefits and discounts
  • An excellent learning and development program to support your career growth
