About the Role

The London Borough of Lewisham is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Social Care Lawyer to join our team. As a Newly Qualified Lawyer, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of cases, including child protection and adult protection, and will be responsible for providing advice and assistance to clients and external parties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Casework: Hold a caseload of predominantly pre-proceedings (PLO's) and undertake a wide variety of more straightforward child protection or adult protection cases.
  • Legal Research: Carry out legal research for own cases and by way of support to other lawyers within the team.
  • Meetings and Advice: Attend all meetings with clients and external parties, professionals' meetings and panels as required, and advise on all aspects of social services work.
  • Client Advice: Advise Social Services clients in person and in writing, on the relevant legislation.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Qualified with a current practising certificate (Barrister, Solicitor or CILEx).
  • Experience: Ideally with a local government background, but candidates from private practice are still encouraged to apply.
