Sanctions Lead Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Sanctions Lead to join our Financial Crime Risk team at NatWest. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing our sanctions risk management initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and promote the development of sanctions risk management initiatives and activities within our 2LOD Sanctions team and across the organisation.
  • Lead and evolve our Sanctions framework, policy, and controls through a variety of initiatives.
  • Work with key stakeholders across the business, championing improvement and enhancement of sanctions processes and controls.
  • Support, guide and mentor managers in the team on policy and framework considerations, applying subject matter expert (SME) sanctions knowledge and ensuring a comprehensive risk assessment.

What You'll Do:

As a Sanctions Lead in Financial Crime Risk, you will provide sanctions expertise to stakeholders across the Group, leading and supporting the development of the NatWest Sanctions Framework. You will also engage with regulators and industry bodies on sanctions initiatives within the wider industry.

Some day-to-day activities include:

  • Supporting stakeholders by providing advice and support on policy matters.
  • Leading the organisation's engagement with regulators and industry bodies.
  • Collaborating with specialists' teams and key stakeholders such as legal.
  • Managing and supporting policy updates, sanctions training and communicating with senior stakeholders.

The Skills You'll Need:

We are looking for a sanctions risk management SME with 2LOD experience. You will also need experience of interpreting EU, UK and OFAC sanctions regulations. Additionally, you will need:

  • Experience with regulatory and industry body engagement.
  • A keen interest and understanding of global events that influence the geopolitical environment.
  • Organisational awareness including working knowledge of risks, products, processes and controls.
  • Experience of managing a range of different sanctions tasks, stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Strong written and oral communication with a keen eye for detail.
