About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Medicines Management Technician to join our team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts. As a Medicines Management Technician, you will play a vital role in providing a high-quality medicines management service to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Clinical Pharmacists and Chief Medicines Management Technician in the provision of a high-quality medicine management service within the medicine and integrated care speciality.
  • Participate in the full programme of validations and training schemes to ensure you are up-to-date with the latest medicines management policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to ward-based audit schemes and other forms of research to improve patient care and outcomes.
  • Participate in ward-controlled drug checks, returns, and transfers of patients' own controlled drugs to new ward areas.
  • Be involved in the training of new pharmacy and nursing ward support staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams at ward level and teams in primary care to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Assist the Medicines Information department in the coordination of the Drug Hazard/Recall procedure in the event of a drug recall.
  • Provide a controlled drug ward service to specific areas against pre-arranged stock lists and coordinate the return of controlled drugs system for designated wards.
  • Issue dispensed medication in the pharmacy satellites and dispensaries and counsel patients appropriately on the correct and safe use of their medicines.
  • Be involved in the training of Technical and ATO staff in the satellite/dispensaries.
  • Participate in the NVQ training and assessment process of student technicians within the satellite/dispensaries and at ward level.
  • Assist in the management of the day-to-day stock holding in the satellite/dispensaries.
  • Utilize the pharmacy IT systems as required.
  • Participate in rostered 7-day working, including weekends and bank holidays.

Person Specification
  • Qualifications:
    • BTEC/NVQ Level 3 in pharmacy services or equivalent.
    • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (accredited or proof of in-house training).
  • Desirable Qualifications:
    • BTEC Level 4 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
    • Medicines Management Assessment or Validations.
    • Proven knowledge and understanding of the medicines management technician role and responsibilities within hospital pharmacy.
  • Experience:
    • Receiving, dispensing, and accuracy checking prescriptions.
    • Pharmacy labelling systems for labelling and stock management.
    • Stock management.
    • Able to work in a productive team.
    • Able to work safely as an individual.
  • Desirable Experience:
    • Previous experience in all core aspects of hospital pharmacy, including medicines management policies and procedures.
    • Experience in the admission/discharge process.
    • Experience of management and coordination of staff.
    • Knowledge and experience in using computer labelling and stock control systems.
    • Experience of using EPMA and electronic handovers.

    • Good interpersonal skills with ability to liaise with a wide range of staff and patients.
    • Communicate information relevant to medicines management back to patients/carers, staff, and colleagues.
