Job Overview

We are thrilled to announce a remarkable opportunity within the Hospital At Night Team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. We seek a qualified and seasoned nurse with a passion for excellence to join our team on a temporary basis for a six-month engagement.

The Night Clinical Nurse Leader plays a pivotal role in ensuring patient safety and delivering clinical support across the organization during nighttime hours. This position involves assessing critically ill patients and executing necessary interventions, utilizing advanced clinical skills such as arterial blood sampling, venepuncture, and cannulation. The Night Clinical Nurse Leader is also responsible for responding to cardiac arrest situations and medical emergencies overnight, employing Immediate Life Support (ILS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) techniques. Collaboration with the extended team, including surgical, medical, and specialist physicians, is essential.

Additionally, the Night Clinical Nurse Leader is tasked with capacity management, which includes maintaining up-to-date capacity information and working closely with wards, assessment areas, and emergency departments to ensure the effective allocation of available beds. This role involves collaborating with the clinical site team to uphold nationally agreed targets while prioritizing patient safety and care.

Key Responsibilities

1. Uphold accountability for personal actions in line with the Code of Professional Conduct, contributing to organizational objectives while adhering to local, Trust, and statutory guidelines and policies.

2. Communicate effectively regarding clinical decisions, policies, and care pathways to patients, caregivers, and the multidisciplinary team.

3. Serve as a skilled practitioner and clinical leader, providing support to the Hospital at Night team to ensure patient and site safety throughout the night.

4. Conduct clinical assessments of patients and deliver advanced nursing interventions to enhance the health and welfare of patients across all hospital areas.

5. Organize cross-departmental activities, including human resources, resource management, and bleep-holder responsibilities as necessary.

6. Demonstrate advanced technical and practical skills to ensure optimal patient management, including complex patient monitoring, equipment management, and frequent administration of invasive tests and procedures.

7. Manage capacity and flow in accordance with established standard work documents.

8. Mentor and develop staff, engaging in supervision, mentorship, and performance appraisal as required.
