They are seeking a seasoned SHEQ Manager to provide expert guidance to Directors, Managers, and team members on all aspects of safety, health, welfare, and environmental compliance, ensuring adherence to statutory obligations within the manufacturing sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive health, safety, environmental, and quality policies that align with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
  • Exhibit proactive leadership in all quality, health, safety, and environmental initiatives, setting a standard for others to follow.
  • Integrate the requirements of ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 14064, EN 1090-2, and ISO 45001 into the company’s operations, ensuring compliance through regular audits and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of safe work systems and ensure relevant documentation evidences compliance with legal requirements.
  • Support the development of risk assessments and method statements, including training for personnel.
  • Assess quality, health, safety, and environmental performance, establishing benchmarks and identifying Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure and report on progress to the Directors.
  • Promote a culture of quality, safety, and environmental awareness, ensuring employee engagement with the organization’s safety initiatives.
  • Prepare necessary documentation for third-party awarding bodies to secure and maintain ISO accreditations and industry awards.
  • Provide health, safety, and environmental insights for new project proposals.
  • Conduct investigations into incidents to determine root causes and prevent recurrence, sharing insights and best practices across the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, quality, and environmental training programs.
  • Oversee and enhance the company’s Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally as required, with all expenses covered by the organization.

Authority and Accountability:

  • Support the Operations Director for the Modular division, managing the departmental budget.
  • Collaborate with operational management to ensure that quality control and assurance practices yield the highest quality outputs.
  • Develop and enhance the skills and capabilities of the team, including workforce and succession planning.
  • Drive cultural change towards a lean manufacturing and process-oriented environment.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in quality, health, safety, and environmental management.
  • Lead auditor qualification.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum qualification.
  • IEMA Environmental Management qualification.
  • Experience in heavy manufacturing and MIG/MAG welding processes.
  • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills with effective communication abilities across all levels.
  • Membership in a professional body such as IOSH is advantageous.

Experience:

Proven experience in promoting and leading SHEQ initiatives within heavy engineering and welding standards, either in a manufacturing context or within the UK construction sector. A demonstrated history of conducting audits, managing documentation, and enhancing SHEQ standards is essential. Candidates should have experience operating at a senior level, showcasing self-initiated projects that influenced organizational direction. Strong knowledge of quality, health, and safety practices, coupled with practical operational experience, is required. Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and motivational skills are crucial for this role. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a problem-solving mindset with attention to detail are expected.
