About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Neonatal Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic and passionate AHP Neonatal team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced neonatal occupational therapy services to high-risk neonates, including premature babies up to 2 years of age.
  • Support the coordination and delivery of neonatal occupational therapy services, working closely with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide guidance and support to other therapists and members of the AHP Neonatal MDT.
  • Work with neonatal unit and community AHPs to establish programs of support, facilitating delivery of interventions to meet children's occupational therapy needs.
  • Collate statistical and activity data, contributing to the meeting of clinical targets and performance indicators.
  • Ensure services provided are evidence-informed, participating in clinical audit, research, and development related to the team and specialist area.
  • Contribute to the overall development of the AHP Neonatal service, aligning with organisational changes.

Requirements

  • Work as a Band 7 Neonatal Occupational Therapist, specialising in neonatal care, with a wide range of diagnoses and in-depth understanding and experience.
  • Ensure the successful implementation of a specialist area of an occupational therapy clinical pathway, alongside other service development initiatives.
  • Provide support and guidance to other Occupational Therapists and members of the AHP Neonatal MDT.
  • Work with the Neonatal unit and other community AHPs, supporting them to establish programs of support, facilitating delivery of interventions to meet children's occupational therapy needs.
  • Provide advanced individual child-focused assessments and interventions, integrating knowledge and understanding of child development, environment, disability, and occupations.
  • Select, administer, and apply advanced-level analysis to standardised and non-standardised assessments, tools, and materials specific to community paediatric occupational therapy.
  • Negotiate, agree, and set goals with families, schools, and other professionals, addressing key occupational performance needs.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and modify intervention against set goals, measuring progress and ensuring effectiveness.
  • Identify and assess assistive technology needs, planning management and intervention to meet these needs.
  • Undertake complex risk assessments, assessing the competence of others to use equipment safely.
  • Address consent throughout involvement with a child, working co-operatively with parents, teaching staff, and other professionals.
  • Work with families from diverse backgrounds, responding appropriately to their needs.
  • Work with families and children with additional vulnerability, providing appropriate support.
  • Record and maintain client contact information and data in client files or on electronic recording systems, adhering to local and national policies and guidance.
