Key Responsibilities- Design Team Management: Manage and develop the design team to ensure they have the necessary skills and resources to meet the company's design needs.
- Department Goals and Objectives: Establish and manage department goals and objectives that support the company's strategic plan.
- Design Coordination: Understand the interaction of all disciplines to ensure our designs meet the client's briefs and offer the best possible solution.
- Regulatory Compliance: Represent the business as Designated Individual for Principal Design in accordance with CDM Regulations and Temporary Works according to BS 5975.
- Temporary Works Management: Manage, produce, approve, and deliver Temporary Works Solutions.
- Technical Leadership: Lead the design work, liaising with the Engineering Director, Operations Managers, Project Managers, and Project Engineers to ensure the technical function is effective and efficient.
- Process Improvement: Review alternative build methods and practices, and keep up to date on new and innovative products.
- Legislative Compliance: Keep up to date with changing legislations and codes of practice, client standards (including WIMES) relating to design.
- Project Support: Assist the team in the management and compilation of the overall project, and liaise with the Client's Project Teams to ensure designs are technically compliant.
- Communication: Organise and manage regular technical coordination workshops, package reviews, and design team meetings, including internal and external HAZOP and ALM reviews.
- Document Control: Ensure translation of the conceptual scheme into an efficient and workable commercial solution, and oversee document control concerning registration and distribution of design and technical information.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure drawings and design information are produced on time, to a high quality, and are easy to decipher.
- Risk Management: Monitor changes from clients, design consultants, subcontractors, and proposed changes by the construction team, and constantly monitor all production information and consultant activities against budgetary allowances.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years' experience working and delivering design solutions from first principles.
- Qualifications: MEng/MSc in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, ICA, Structural, Civil), and Chartered Engineer with a relevant institution.
- Leadership Skills: Experience in leading technical teams, and management skills – staff, clients, commercial, and programs.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and excellent computer literacy.
- Health and Safety: Excellent CDM and health and safety knowledge and application.
