Position Overview
As a Lead Cost Estimator, you will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase of significant building projects.
Salary and Benefits
Competitive salary ranging from £55,000 to £75,000, complemented by a car allowance, pension contributions, and private healthcare.
Location
Office-based role with a focus on projects in the North West.

Our client is a well-established contractor renowned for delivering large-scale construction projects, including hotels, residential apartments, and high-end fit-outs.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess potential incoming inquiries.
- Analyze and price bills/schedules, producing quote comparisons utilizing estimating software.
- Prepare tender pricing for review by the tender committee, highlighting risks and conditions to ensure a competitive edge.
- Develop and maintain the company’s estimating library.
- Review and comprehend tender documentation requirements.
- Participate in site visits with the assigned bid team.
- Confirm and approve specific resource needs and outputs.
- Ensure a thorough understanding of pricing related to goods and services.
- Analyze client pricing schedules to understand the calculations leading to the net price.
- Produce Bills of Quantities/Schedules and detailed cost breakdowns for all activities, including supervision and other associated costs.
- Manage the risk register effectively.
- Compile pricing clarifications and prepare tender breakdowns for committee review.
- Engage in post-tender negotiations and pricing reviews.
- Foster relationships with architects, quantity surveyors, and industry competitors.
- Stay informed about market trends concerning labor, materials, and subcontractors.
- Prepare and dispatch subcontract and material inquiries using the estimating system.
- Conduct accurate take-offs as required.
- Collaborate with planners to evaluate project timelines and preliminary requirements.
- Undertake feasibility studies and develop procurement reports.
- Implement Value Management techniques at the project's inception.
- Prepare information for handover to the contract team for secured projects.
Essential Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Senior Estimator or Cost Planner within a pre-construction team.
- Familiarity with estimating software, preferably ConQuest.
