Job Summary:

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and passionate Teaching Assistant to join our team of professionals in supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in primary schools in Sunderland.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-to-one or small group support for primary school students with ASD, ensuring their access to the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with class teachers to create and implement tailored learning plans that cater to the needs of each student.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, supportive classroom environment that fosters academic and social growth for students with ASD.
  • Implement positive behavior interaction management strategies to promote a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Work closely with the Special Educational Needs (SEN) team to ensure the best outcomes for students with ASD.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and customized strategies to enhance the learning experience for students with ASD.
Requirements:
  • Teaching assistant qualification or training in special education, childcare is preferred.
  • Previous experience as an ASD Teaching Assistant or similar role, ideally in a primary school setting is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of autism spectrum disorder and its impact on learning.
  • Proactivity, resilience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • A commitment to helping these students achieve their full potential and willingness to contribute to the school's overall mission and values.
