Structural Analysis Group Leader

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out first-stage sizing calculations and FEA studies to enable early decision making and support the sales team during the bid process for new projects.
  • Assist in the scoping of new projects, including gathering and compiling information, then dividing larger projects into work packages for individual engineers.
  • Work with others to define the structural analysis methodology for each project, taking into consideration time and resource constraints.
  • Assist in estimating stress engineering resource required per project and be involved in the recruitment process for stress engineers, as requested by the line manager.
  • Provide technical support and supervision to each stress engineer through regular discussions, ensuring that work is being conducted efficiently and that progress stays on schedule.
  • Have extensive knowledge of advanced materials (metals and composites) to advise on suitable materials selection to achieve product structural specifications.
  • During the design process, escalate any issues as soon as they can be foreseen, including deviations from plan that will increase liability, resource requirements, risk or cost.
  • Seek opportunities for mass reduction and product optimisation, including performance, manufacturing, and cost.
  • Ensure all analyses are concluded with a suitable structural report in a pre-determined RBAT format, and ensure these are complete and signed off.
  • Personally undertake some analysis work, including finite element analysis of complex multi-material high-performance assemblies in minimal time frames.

Requirements:

  • Proficient and experienced in finite element analysis and optimisation of high-performance composite and metallic structures.
  • Ability to have a flexible approach; defining suitable methodologies that comply with performance, safety, time and budget constraints.
