Saica Group is a leader in the manufacture of sustainable recycled paper, corrugated cardboard, and flexible packaging, with a strong commitment to waste management and recovery solutions.

Our Flex division specializes in producing a variety of flexible plastic films, catering to major food retailers and suppliers.

We are seeking a Print Production Assistant to join our dedicated team, providing essential support to the Lead Printer in the operation of flexographic printing machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the setup and operation of printing equipment, ensuring optimal performance while adhering to health, safety, environmental, hygiene, and housekeeping standards.
  • Document and promptly address any spills or incidents, maintaining compliance with site health and safety protocols.
  • Contribute to maintaining standards for BRC, ISO, and A2 environmental practices.
  • Implement lean manufacturing techniques, including SMED and 5S principles, and engage in continuous improvement initiatives within the production environment.
  • Manage press consumables to ensure uninterrupted production, including the loading and unloading of master reels and inks.
  • In the absence of the Lead Printer, operate the press and ensure effective communication during shift handovers.
  • Support the training of team members as needed and collaborate with colleagues in various departments to uphold production standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of printing equipment and assist in general maintenance tasks.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by supporting other production areas and operating additional machinery as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Partially or fully trained in printing, preferably with flexographic experience.
  • Relevant Print NVQ Level 2 or 3 is advantageous.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills, ideally at GCSE level in English and Maths.
  • Previous experience in printing, particularly with flexographic processes and solvent-based inks.
  • Familiarity with Fischer Krecke 126S, 20SIX CS color printers, or BOBST printers is a plus.
  • Experience in mounting is beneficial.
  • Background in manufacturing, specifically in label or packaging printing.
  • Exposure to Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of quality, health, safety, and environmental standards in a production context.

Shift Pattern:
The role involves 12-hour shifts across a 2-week rotation:

  • Week 1: 4 days (Tuesday to Friday) from 6 am to 6 pm
  • Week 2: 3 nights (Tuesday to Thursday) from 6 pm to 6 am
