Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Hoare Lea. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical engineering designs and managing a range of project types and sizes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver mechanical engineering systems at the highest level using the latest software design packages, including AutoCAD and REVIT.
  • Lead mechanical services design on large projects and take overall lead on small to medium-sized projects within the office.
  • Work on a varied portfolio of projects across key sectors, including Education, Science and Research, Healthcare, Leisure, Residential, Commercial, Defence, and high-end mixed-use developments.
  • Develop initial strategic concepts for projects, ensuring solutions are appropriate for the brief and regulatory standards.
  • Take responsibility for solid technical delivery in your work, either alone or as part of a team.
  • Engage with junior support staff in their day-to-day activities and offer advice and guidance to ensure they develop their skills and we get the best out of our people.
  • Work with the project leader to help monitor fee expenditure, resource, and work delivered.
  • Look at new ways of working and take time out for innovation and research to ensure we stay ahead of our competitors.
  • Create and maintain a high reputation within the industry and ensure adherence to quality management and risk control procedures.

Requirements

  • Excellent technical knowledge in Mechanical Design Engineering and a thorough understanding of Building Services Engineering and interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process.
  • Previous consultancy experience, with an appreciation of the importance of complementary specialisms such as acoustics, fire engineering, and computer modeling in the design of buildings.
  • Able to lead small to medium-sized projects and take a brief from the project lead on large projects and deliver and control the tasks required.
  • Responsible for the quality of our outputs and able to identify when outsourcing is required, such as design and CAD work.
  • Understand and identify resource needs and mentor and supervise junior members of staff.
  • Ideal candidate will be a Chartered engineer or working towards.
