Key Responsibilities
What does an Employment Support Specialist do?
This role is both fulfilling and dynamic, with each day presenting new challenges and opportunities to positively influence lives. Utilizing the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) framework, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting and encouraging individuals who have received addiction support to secure and maintain paid employment.
- Regularly engaging with clients to provide support, listen to their needs, and help them identify suitable job matches that align with their skills and aspirations.
- Aiding clients in creating CVs, mastering interview techniques, and managing their well-being in the workplace.
- Advocating for clients by educating and collaborating with employers about the IPS service.
- Identifying job opportunities for clients through proactive outreach to local employers.
- Promoting employment and enhancing expectations regarding the capabilities of service users to access paid work, thereby dismantling barriers to employment.

Candidate Profile
Who are we looking for?
Candidates should possess either a degree-level education or relevant professional experience in health and social care or employment services. Essential skills include strong communication abilities, excellent time management, and outstanding organizational skills. Additionally, the capacity to build and nurture relationships with diverse individuals and engage employers through various methods is crucial.
While not mandatory, experience working with individuals with addiction support needs or in employment support services is advantageous. We are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated persuasive communication skills or have experience in promoting services to diverse audiences, including roles in marketing, recruitment, or sales.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience in one-on-one communication and engagement with individuals.
- Experience working within diverse community settings.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with various partners and organizations.
Desirable Experience
- Background in supporting individuals with mental health challenges or similar client groups within health, social services, or voluntary sectors.
- Experience in assisting individuals to obtain or retain employment.
