We are actively seeking dedicated Theatre Support Workers to provide essential support across various sites for South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.

Our operating theatre is busy and caters to patients undergoing procedures in multiple specialties, including General Surgery, Vascular, Emergency Services, ENT, Paediatrics, Urology, Facial Maxillary, Orthopaedics, and Gynaecology.

Please be aware that this role does not qualify for Skilled Worker Sponsorship due to UKVI threshold requirements. We encourage you to consider this when applying.

Key Responsibilities

The position requires collaboration as a team member in a dynamic working environment. Responsibilities include direct and indirect patient care during the perioperative phase, ensuring a safe environment for all patients, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, and preparing and stocking theatres for efficient operation.

Successful candidates will receive support and supervision from highly trained Theatre Staff to facilitate the smooth operation of their designated areas.

If selected for the Theatre Support Worker role, you will be expected to participate in shift patterns to accommodate service needs.

Job Duties

Assist theatre teams in preparing the operating suite, instruments, and equipment before, during, and after surgical sessions.

To support all aspects of direct patient care as applicable.

Undertake clerical tasks in the absence of the receptionist.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Maths and English at level 1 or above (GCSE A-E or equivalent).

Desirable

NVQ Level 2 qualification in health and social care/customer care or equivalent in any subject. Familiarity with T Doc System. Knowledge of Meditech.

Physical Skills

Essential

Ability to assist patients in accordance with the Trust's Moving and Handling Policy. Must be capable of moving equipment and instruments. Must be available to cover shifts from Monday to Sunday to meet service needs. Must maintain a positive attitude.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

Ability to accurately communicate messages and instructions to colleagues, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrate excellent customer care skills and the ability to effectively communicate with the multidisciplinary team, patients, caregivers, and visitors. Basic skills in empathy and reassurance. Basic keyboard and IT skills. Willingness to complete Competency-Based Assessments and maintain a Portfolio of evidence to achieve the Care Certificate and any other training related to this role. Willingness to pursue further training related to this role.

Knowledge of instrumentation for procedural tasks.

Substantial experience in customer service. Or Experience in a caring role (paid or unpaid).
