Principal Estimator Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Estimator to lead and take ownership of delivering build costs for our customers on high-value projects. As a key member of our preconstruction team, you will collaborate with supply chain partners to ensure accurate cost proposals that meet project scope and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and own the estimating process from tender to contract signing, strategizing procurement and value for money phases to deliver successful and profitable projects.
  • Identify and mitigate risks throughout the project process, offering workable solutions to ensure project success.
  • Develop and implement tender procurement strategies, ensuring robust profit plans, supply chain engagement schedules, and agreed design milestones.
  • Complete or manage project take-offs to the required level of detail, up to SMM 7/NRM2 for all trades.
  • Provide detailed cost information packages during substantiation, including completed comparisons, bills of quantities, tender books, and quotations.
  • Collaborate with the production team to ensure logistics, programs, sequencing, and buildability activities are accounted for during substantiation.
  • Review supply chain partner performance with the site team.
  • Ensure all design/survey fees, including CDPs, are captured within proposed costs.
Requirements:
  • Successful delivery of tenders.
  • Experience with Conquest Estimating system or similar.
  • Taking off quantities up to SMM 7.
  • Controlling costs, timing, and quality in line with targets.
  • Managing a team.
  • Reading and accurately interpreting drawings and technical specifications.
  • Proactively liaising with customers.
  • Identifying opportunities to add value throughout the project process.
