NHS Scotland – Lead Specialist in Adult Protection Clinical Effectiveness

The Public Protection division offers evidence-based, expert guidance and support to personnel on all facets of Public Protection within our organization, particularly focusing on Adult Support & Protection. The Lead Specialist for Adult Protection will: spearhead service enhancement initiatives; provide training and educational resources on Public Protection; conduct audits aimed at improvement; participate in multi-agency meetings and reviews as necessary, and guarantee the highest quality of Adult Protection guidance and support across the organization.

This position holds a national significance, and while the primary focus is on Adult Protection, familiarity with other Public Protection domains such as Gender-Based Violence and Child Protection would be beneficial.

The individual in this role will be tasked with delivering leadership, direction, and counsel to foster ongoing enhancements in service delivery and outcomes for adults at risk of harm who utilize NHS services. This encompasses collaboration with a diverse array of stakeholders, both internal and external, to fulfill and surpass statutory and policy obligations in critical areas of Adult Support and Protection, PREVENT, and Gender-Based Violence.

The appointee will ensure that policies, national and local standards, clinical practices, and Public Protection workforce development are established to achieve safe, effective, and efficient service delivery, grounded in a framework of continuous quality enhancement.

It is imperative that candidates are registered professionals (e.g., HCPC, NMC, or SSC) possessing a first-level degree and a postgraduate qualification in Adult Protection (or are currently pursuing this qualification with a commitment to undertake the necessary training).

NHS Scotland is a Values-Based Organization, deeply committed to the principles of NHS Scotland, which include:

  • Dignity and Respect
  • Openness, Honesty, and Accountability
  • Quality and Teamwork
  • Care and Compassion

The individual in this role will be expected to travel, occasionally requiring overnight stays, to fulfill responsibilities throughout the region.

NHS Scotland is dedicated to promoting equality and diversity within our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. Our objective is to ensure that our workforce is genuinely representative and that every employee feels valued and empowered to perform at their best. Consequently, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all segments of society.
