Specialist Biomedical Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our Haematology and Blood Transfusion department at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality scientific results and contributing to the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases.
Main DutiesThe successful candidate will work in a dynamic and supportive environment, rotating through Haematology, Coagulation, Blood Transfusion, and Immunohaematology sections. You will be responsible for performing complex investigations, including manual, semi-automated, and automated techniques on highly specialized analytical equipment.
You will also be expected to maintain a high level of competency in all sections, deputize for Band 7 staff in their absence, and assist with training and management of Practitioner BMS staff.
Person Specification- BSc Biomedical Sciences or Degree accredited by IBMS as suitable for HCPC registration
- Specialist portfolio and/or MSc
- Current HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
- Substantial post-registration experience/competency in required activities, referable in the UK
- Experience of use of relevant instrumentation within the laboratory
- Evidence of CPD
- Able to work to appropriate standard of competency in all sections, and through rotation, maintain those skills
- Sufficient skill and knowledge to deputize for Band 7 staff in their absence to maintain workflow and manage staffing
- Able to assist with training and management of Practitioner BMS staff
- IT skills appropriate to the department
- Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
- Evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles (as appropriate to role)
