About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Head of Carbon and Energy Tax. This is an exciting opportunity to lead our work on carbon and energy taxation policy, working closely with senior officials, ministers, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership on carbon and energy taxation policy, ensuring alignment with government objectives and priorities.
  • Develop and implement effective policies to drive cost-effective industrial decarbonisation, working closely with DESNZ, DEFRA, DfT, and Devolved Governments.
  • Lead the development and delivery of the new Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, working closely with HMRC and trade colleagues.
  • Advise ministers on the case and options for strategic reform of energy taxation, ensuring current existing reliefs provide value for money.
  • Represent the UK's interests at the OECD's Inclusive Forum for Carbon Mitigation Approaches, ensuring HM Treasury's decision-making is informed by robust evidence.
