Electrical Asset Support Specialist

The Asset Delivery team is integral to our strategy for meeting the evolving demands of customers and regulatory bodies.


The Electrical Asset Support team is a multidisciplinary group specializing in Electrical, Mechanical, and Instrumentation engineering.

Our team's expertise enables us to lead and assist the organization in complex investigations, solution development, investment management, and regulatory compliance.

The Electrical Asset Support Specialist will be responsible for crafting detailed solutions and resolutions to ongoing incidents, enhancing asset reliability, and developing performance monitoring systems.

They will provide engineering guidance and support to various operational sectors, ensuring adherence to engineering standards.

Additionally, the Specialist will conduct analysis and reporting on asset failures and performance issues, offering recommendations for enhancements.

The Specialist will collaborate with other engineering teams to improve asset resilience and cost-effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the recovery of asset failures and ensure compliance with relevant management procedures and regulations.
  • Identify and document opportunities for asset improvements in areas such as safety, regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, performance metrics, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide engineering support to teams across the organization to ensure adherence to engineering specifications.
  • Lead or assist in conducting Standard Investigations for pollution incidents, equipment failures, and performance shortfalls.
  • Ensure sound financial management and commercial awareness in all business decisions.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering strategies, policies, procedures, and standards in collaboration with principal engineers.
  • Assist in creating frameworks to maximize value from suppliers and partners.
  • Update asset information on relevant systems in partnership with capital partners and contractors.
  • Review maintenance plans and analyze asset health to identify areas for improvement in equipment reliability and performance using statistical methods such as root cause analysis and FMEA.
  • Participate in HazOp, ALM, FMECA, and RVCA studies to enhance asset safety and reliability.
  • Potentially provide senior authorized person engineering support on High Voltage, Steam, and complex/pressure systems.
  • Manage the delivery of on-site works for minor electrical projects and proof of concept for innovative technologies.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to team members to facilitate knowledge transfer and succession planning within Yorkshire Water.
Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A formal engineering qualification to a minimum of HNC or equivalent (preferably HND or degree).
  • Previous engineering experience in water, wastewater, or sludge treatment processes.
  • Ability to develop and compose technical reports, engineering standards, and specifications.
  • Experience in formulating engineering solutions and integrating them into work packages/specifications.
  • Knowledge and capability to conduct comprehensive Root Cause Analysis Investigations (RCA) following incidents and equipment failures.
  • Familiarity with Management of Change (MoC) procedures for permanent and temporary modifications to assets, plants, and equipment.
  • Ability to comprehend and discuss relevant aspects of technical and process-related investigations and documentation, including Engineering Risk Assessments, Safety Reviews, Functional Design Specifications, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and Electrical/Loop drawings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders across multifunctional teams within the organization.
  • Capacity to engage with internal and external customers, fostering positive business relationships to understand their needs and identify opportunities.
  • Proficient in the use of corporate IT systems, including SAP.
  • A full, valid driving license (with no more than 6 points) is required for this role.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with internal business Control of Work policies and procedures, including ensuring the availability, isolation, and access of plant and equipment.
  • Experience in asset management within an engineering or process-related industry.
  • Working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ideally, you will have membership (or be working towards membership) of a recognized Engineering Institution at Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.

This may increase during collaborative efforts, training, or when meeting deadlines. For those who prefer on-site work, our office is open Monday-Friday during standard working hours.
