Your responsibilities

As a Lead Cost Consultant, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Upholding high standards of safety and environmental practices in line with Company policies
  • Facilitating effective communication with project leaders, senior cost consultants, and other engineering disciplines
  • Overseeing, guiding, and mentoring members of the commercial team to foster their growth
  • Contributing professionalism and insights during meetings with client representatives
  • Providing commercial expertise with supply chain partners through tender processes, pre-contract discussions, analysis, recommendations, and contract documentation
  • Managing subcontractor relationships, including payment processing and final account negotiations
  • Monitoring site resource costs and ensuring timely production of accurate cost performance data
  • Generating monthly cost and value reports, quarterly summaries, and presenting findings to senior management
  • Participating in discussions regarding project performance and offering commercial insights for project strategy
  • Ensuring compliance with Risk and Opportunity management protocols and advising the project team accordingly
  • Promoting the use of Company Procedures and suggesting enhancements to senior management
  • Managing change processes, ensuring adherence to contractual timelines and notifications, and contributing to project scheduling
  • Ensuring timely submission of Monthly Applications for Payment in accordance with contract provisions
  • Providing commercial guidance to the site team and management on all contractual matters
  • Attending and contributing to all site commercial meetings
  • Organizing and managing your time and the workloads of the commercial team effectively
  • Assisting in the design and delivery of commercial training for all site personnel
Who are we looking for?

Essential qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Lead Cost Consultant or at a Cost Consultant level ready to advance in your career, showcasing strong core commercial skills
  • Familiarity with NEC forms of contract
  • Demonstrated capability to mentor and coach team members
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with the project team, including clients, project managers, and designers
  • Confidence and capability to work within a team setting, positively influencing outcomes
  • Relevant qualifications (Degree, HNC/D)


Desirable qualifications:

  • Experience with Early Contractor Involvement
  • Familiarity with target cost contracts
  • Relevant professional qualifications (CICES/RICS)
