About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Cost Management Consultancy Expert to join our team at Mace. As a key member of our consult business, you will be responsible for providing cost management services from contract signature to completion of projects in various sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare contract documents, warranties, bonds, and licenses, and assist in their formal execution.
  • Advise on the administration of the terms of the building contract.
  • Measure and provide valuations of the work carried out, adjusting variations in accordance with the contract terms and agreeing with the contractor.
  • Provide cost control and reporting services during the contract.
  • Prepare financial reports for the client in the required form and frequency.
  • Identify all costs associated with design changes, contract awards, construction activities, and client charges.
  • Participate in the evaluation of claims for delay and additional costs made by the contractor and nominated subcontractors/suppliers.
  • Advise on the issue of certificates of practical completion and negotiate final accounts.
  • Advise on the issue of certificates of making good defects and final completion in accordance with any requirements relating to completion, submissions, and approvals.
  • Deliver improvements in systems and processes, driving transformational change.
  • Work collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work.

Requirements:

  • A degree in quantity surveying/cost management (or equivalent).
  • Proficient knowledge and expertise in specific sectors/markets of project/role.
  • Relevant technical qualification/certification for projects.
  • Experience in most forms of contract.
  • Sound knowledge and ability to undertake and advise on contract administration and contract management.
  • Effective communication skills with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to seek opportunities for implementing improved working practices.
  • Manages relevant stakeholders for projects.
  • Develops effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good interpersonal skills to prepare reports, negotiate, and build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills for resolving cost and contract administration and procurement issues within consult.
  • Understanding of personal strengths and weaknesses, seeking learning and support where appropriate.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of BIM techniques and applications.
  • Professional membership or working towards (e.g., MRICS/RICS or equivalent).
  • Detailed knowledge of JCT and NEC forms of contract.
  • Capex V Opex cost analysis/advice.
  • Knowledge of value engineering, life cycle costing, contract law, and contractual frameworks relating to construction.
  • Identifying and participating in new initiatives that add value, leading to service improvement (e.g., BIM).
  • Champions and operates within an inclusivity environment.
  • Understanding of present-day issues such as sustainability, social value, and carbon reduction.
  • Understanding of industry best practice.
