SEMH English Teacher Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate English Teacher to join our Special School Primary School in Clacton-on-Sea. This full-time position offers a permanent contract, ideal for an educator who is committed to supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

About the Role

As an SEMH English Teacher, you will deliver engaging English lessons tailored to the individual needs of students, helping them build essential literacy skills and confidence. You will work closely with support staff to create a safe and structured learning environment, enabling students to thrive both academically and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver English lessons for students with SEMH needs, utilizing evidence-based teaching strategies.
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants and support staff to create a nurturing learning environment that promotes student well-being.
  • Support students in developing both academic and social-emotional skills, with a focus on literacy and communication.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting teaching strategies to meet individual needs and promote student growth.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure holistic student support and promote a collaborative approach to education.
  • Maintain a safe and structured classroom environment that is conducive to learning and promotes student engagement.
Requirements
  • Experience in teaching students with SEMH needs is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH teaching strategies and approaches to literacy, with a commitment to evidence-based practice.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage students, staff, and parents in a collaborative and supportive manner.
  • A relevant teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS) and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, with a focus on creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.
